WBB Performs First Community Service Event of the Season

Even during the offseason, Jacksonville University’s women’s basketball team is honoring its commitment of service. Devoted to giving back to the community in which they live, last season the Dolphins volunteered nearly 275 hours of community service and last Saturday the team logged a few more at the Christ Church Community Food Pantry.

The mission of the CCCFP is to collect food and distribute it to those in need in its church and community. Bagging and loading groceries for three hours, the Dolphins assisted in feeding approximately 800 people (170 families) in south Jacksonville. Christ Church Community Food Pantry provides food to 16,000 families per year and has been operating for the last five years.

Saturday also marked the first team event of the 2014-15 season as the entire team including seven newcomers arrived on campus on June 20 to start summer classes. Next, the Dolphins will partner with the Riverside Presbyterian Church Basketball League on Saturday, July 19 to host a free youth basketball clinic for kids in Jacksonville.
