This fall, Jacksonville University’s oldest student organization, the Green Key Honor Society, inducted its newest class of honorees – a group of the 17 highest achieving students on campus.
The traditional Green Key Breakfast and Induction Ceremony was held Oct. 9 over Homecoming & Family Weekend in the Sam Marks Center. Green Key alumni and families of the inductees attended, as well as President Cost and the First Lady.
The honor society represents the top 1% of students on campus, based on academics and involvement. Seventeen students were inducted into this year’s class.
“We are students that are never satisfied with who we are or where we are because in the back of our minds we are always striving for more,” Green Key President Jana Alghoul ‘22 said in her induction ceremony remarks.
“We always want more.”
Linda Berry Stein ‘69 was inducted as an honorary member of the society. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education.
Thanks to a multi-year, multi-million dollar gift from her and her husband David Stein, the Linda Berry Stein College of Fine Arts bears her name.
Green Key President Jana Alghoul ‘22 presented inductees with the signature green robe and a Green Key pin.
“We are the top 1%,” Alghoul said. “We are the achievers, we are the overachievers, we are the execs, we are the soon-to-be execs, we are the people who thrive for more and will always always be able to do more.”
Green Key alumni sponsor the annual breakfast through the event’s ticket sales. Throughout the school year, the Green Key Society also helps fundraise for the Nellie Student Support Fund, which provides financial assistance to JU students with emergency expenses. The funding never has to be repaid.
