Syrian military intervention by U.S. is tough sell, JU’s Dr. Jeff Martin says on WJXT

Dr. Jeff Martin, Jacksonville University associate professor of geography

Dr. Jeff Martin, associate professor of geography at Jacksonville University, said on WJXT-TV 4 on Sunday, Sept. 8, that convincing the public that the United States should take military action against Syria is a tough sell for President Barack Obama.

Martin, who was interviewed live at the WJXT studio on the television station’s morning show, said he doesn’t think that newly released videos of Syrian chemical warfare victims will necessarily help the president’s case to strike the country’s military targets.

The Syrian government has denied being behind chemical weapons attacks, which it blames on rebels.

The public is war-weary … certainly after the debacle of the Iraq war, where our intelligence was all wrong,” said Martin, a graduate of West Point who served as a U.S. Army foreign affairs officer. “It’s going to be difficult to convince the American public that our intelligence is … correct this time.”
