JU Wind Ensemble Spring Concert at 3 p.m. April 21 in Terry Concert Hall

The Jacksonville University College of Fine Arts presents the JU Wind Ensemble in a spring concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, in Terry Concert Hall on the JU campus. The concert is free to the public.

The Wind Ensemble will present a program titled “Brass Features” that highlights the talent of two outstanding JU seniors as concerto soloists. Stephen Hanner will perform the Mozart “Horn Concerto No. 2,” and trombonist Corey Wilcox will be featured in Arthur Pryor’s virtuosic “Blue Bells of Scotland.” Both students represent the best of JU’s talented music majors.

The concert also includes a variety of interesting and exciting works from the wind band repertoire. The music of celebrated English composers Malcolm Arnold and Gordon Jacob will be performed as well as American composers Robert Buckley, Barry Kopetz and Samuel Hazo. Exciting music from the ballet “Spartacus” by the Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian is also included.

The JU Wind Ensemble includes woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists and is led by music professor Artie Clifton. The group studies and performs the best of traditional and contemporary wind literature.
