JU professor Xenia Mountrouidou lauds world-class St. Augustine technology conference in Times-Union article

A conference in St. Augustine this week for 300 top computer programmers is a positive sign for the emerging Jacksonville technology scene, Jacksonville University Professor Xenia Mountrouidou, says in the Thursday, April 4 edition of The Florida Times-Union.

The April 4-5 Ancient City Ruby event, which will offer computer programming and code-writing seminars that have traditionally been  held on the East Coast, is drawing attendees from throughout the world.  Speakers from the West Coast and Europe will address the computer program known as “Ruby” and its website development, “Ruby on Rails.”

Ruby on Rails is an increasingly prominent tool in developing Internet sites such as Twitter, Hulu and Groupon, the Times-Union reported.

“Most of these (conferences) happen in California,” Mountrouidou, an assistant professor of computer science, said in the T-U article. “But bringing these to the East Coast is a great way of spreading the information and knowledge. It’s good for the industry that’s developing in Jacksonville and the area.”
