JU Dance Theatre to host NYC-based resident professional in April 12 performance

The Jacksonville University Dance Theatre will present a performance by The Works, a New York City professional dance company that has presented its artistry at theatres and festivals worldwide, at noon Friday, April 12 at Swisher Theater.

The performance is the culmination of a residency that The Works and its founder, Jennifer Muller, is conducting April 4-12 at JU.

The performance is free with a JU ID.

The Works has performed in 30 states in the US, and self-produced 22 New York City Seasons in such venues as New York City Center, The Joyce, Cedar Lake, Jerome Robbins and New Victory Theaters. In the US, The Works has performed at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Jacob’s Pillow and American Dance Festival. The company’s recent engagements and performances in New York City and environs have included The Joyce Theater, David H. Koch Theater, Central Park Summerstage, Ailey Citigroup Theater, Guild Hall, Chelsea Art Museum, Bryant Park Festival, Jacob Javits Center, Dutesco Gallery, Brooklyn Botanic Gardens, Fire Island Dance Festival and the United Nations.

The dancers of The Works are renowned both for their technical virtuosity and expressive capability. Ms. Muller draws energy, athleticism, passion and grace out of her company members in a process that reveals each performer as a distinct individual without compromising the integrity of a coherent ensemble.

The Works is devoted to mentoring creativity in all its forms, through teaching professionally-oriented students, mentoring choreographers and conducting arts-in-education programs for all ages, cultures and backgrounds.
