The automatic federal budget cuts — also known as “sequestration” — that are expected to kick in on March 1 could have a dire impact on three small northeast Florida aiports and the crews and passengers they serve, Jacksonville University Assistant Professor of Aeronautics Wayne Ziskal said in a Feb. 25 First Coast News (WTLV NBC-12 and WJXX ABC-25) report.
Specific, airport control tower jobs could be cut.
“Really the worst part is if we have airplanes that are not separated properly, somebody might get hurt and that would be a silly, a very silly result of political gamesmanship,” Ziskal told First Coast News, adding that local airport authorities should be closely monitoring the situation.
