Jacksonville University political science professor Dr. Stephen Baker said during a local television panel discussion that civil discourse in the United States wouldn’t be so prevalent if people didn’t tend to associate with like-minded individuals.
Baker also said Thursday, Oct. 18 on “First Coast Forum: Civility in America” that living in an “information bubble” contributes to people being uncivil toward others.
“It makes it much easier to attack them and treat them as if they’re not worthy of respect,” he said.
“First Coast Forum: Civility in America” was broadcast live on WJCT’s TV and radio stations. The show was part of an ongoing project by WJCT, the Florida Times-Union, OneJax Institute, UNF and the Jacksonville Human Rights Commission.
