Clay & Canvas Studio’s biannual Open Studio Night Exhibition from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 25 will feature the newest works of Jacksonville University art professors Lily Kuonen and Tiffany Whitfield Leach alongside those of guest artist Madeleine Peck-Wagner.
Jacksonville artist Robin Rütenberg will perform INSEL at the event at the Riverside studio, and treats and drinks will be provided by local craft brewery Intuition Ale Works.
Kuonen makes PLAYNTINGS, which are the synthesis of painting with additional forms and actions. Combining wood, canvas, paint and all the scraps and tools of the studio, she explores beyond categorical structures. She received her MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design and is an assistant professor of foundations at Jacksonville University.
Whitfield Leach is a ceramic artist who explores vessels using figurative forms, animal traits, and horizon lines reminiscent of a southern landscape for expression. She received her MFA from University of Georgia, and she is currently assistant professor of visual art at Jacksonville University.
Peck-Wagner engages in a drawing practice focused on reconciling fixed notions of body appropriateness with that which is imperfect and flawed. Her work addresses issues of consumerism, imperfection, and the myth of beauty. She is currently pursuing her MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and has exhibited her work in Miami, Los Angeles, Asheville and Orlando.
Clay & Canvas Studio is located at 2642-6 Rosselle St. near the CoRK Arts District. For more information, contact Kuonen at (501) 766-1268 or lilykuonen@gmail.com.
