5 Things to Do in JAX: When Your Friends Have Homework and You Don’t

By Carley Stickney

For our last #WanderingWednesday, I roamed to many of the different communities that make up Jacksonville: Riverside, San Marco, The Beaches, the Urban Core, and there’s still much more to explore. Grab a coffee and take a stroll on a beautiful fall afternoon, or catch a flick on a rainy day with another five Jacksonville favorites.

Memorial Park | 1620 Riverside Ave.

Take a walk with friends, your dog, or just by yourself under the shade of massive oaks and a breeze from the St. Johns River at Memorial Park. It’s the perfect place for a picnic, game of catch, or to snap a few photos for Instagram.

Bold Bean Coffee Roasters | San Marco, Riverside, or Jacksonville Beach

Get out of the house and read a book with a latte or tea from Bold Bean! With their trendy atmosphere and interesting playlists, it’s the perfect place to meet a few friends, or sit alone and enjoy the ambiance.

San Marco Theatre & Grille | 1996 San Marco Blvd.

Take advantage of the student discount at the San Marco Theatre & Grille and see gripping, fresh films! Enjoy your film with the delicious snacks from the bakery/café and comfortable seating in one of their two screening rooms.

Jacksonville Beach | 501 1st St. N.

Go to Jacksonville Beach for a day full of relaxation by the water! Enjoy swimming, surfing, or even taking a nap under your umbrella.

Art Walk | Hemming Plaza and Surrounding area(s)

On the first Wednesday of every month, artists, artisans, musicians, and food trucks come to Downtown Jacksonville for Art Walk. You can buy local art or jewelry from vendors and visit surrounding businesses who stay open later for the event. You can also take advantage of the promotions that many of the businesses offer during the event!

Jacksonville is the largest city in the contiguous United States, so it is virtually impossible to run out of things to do. Despite what you might have heard. Sometimes, all it takes is someone listing her favorite places  to spark your interest. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #WanderingWednesdays on your Instagram photos while wandering around Jacksonville!
