Jacksonville University ‘Street Scene’ production nets $2,000 grant

Jacksonville University has received a $2,000 Kurt Weill Foundation for Music grant to reimburse JU for advertising and musician expenses from its April production of “Street Scene: An America Opera.”
The Kurt Weill Foundation (www.kwf.org) is a New York City organization that promotes Weill’s life and works, and preserves the legacies of Weill and his wife, actress and singer Lotte Lenya. Weill, who defected to the United States from Germany in 1935, composed the music for “Street Scene.”
The grant was secured by JU Music Department Prof. Kimberly Beasley, who directed “Street Scene.”
