Storm causes telephone failure, damage on JU campus

The severe weather that pummeled Jacksonville’s Arlington area without warning Thursday (Aug. 1) afternoon downed trees, caused roof damage and leaks, and resulted in temporary flooding on the JU campus, among other problems.

Power outages occurred throughout campus and some telephone equipment on failed. By Sunday, Aug. 4, all services had been restored.

JU’s Department of Campus Security reported that the following damage was incurred as a result of the storm:

– Davis College of Business and College of Fine Arts Dance Studio — Roof leakage

– Phillips Fine Arts Building, Kinne University Center, Swisher Library, 3D Art Annex, Athletic Field House, Williams Hall, Marine Science Research Institute, Sessions Baseball Stadium — Flooding/Standing water

– Basketball trailers — Roof and skirting damage

– 2D Art Annex — Flooding and roof leak

– River Road and Dolphin Drive — Two vehicles flooded due to motorists attempting to drive through while the area was flooded

– Trees fell in the Valley area behind Swisher Gym and Terry Concert Hall
