“Save the Day!” is the theme of this year’s JU Suicide Prevention Week Sept. 9-13

With suicide the second-leading cause of death among college students nationally, organizers of JU’s Second Annual Suicide Prevention Week say they are doing their part to help lower that statistic.

This year the week runs from Sept. 9-13 and will be headed by Active Minds at JU. The event’s Facebook page is at https://www.facebook.com/juspw. The theme is “Save the Day,” showing that anyone can rise and be a hero, and that everyone must help fight for the greater good. Organizers hope to raise money by collecting clothes to sell to Plato’s Closet. There will be a bin outside the Student Solutions Center, and any clothes Plato’s doesn’t take will go to World Relief Jacksonville.

There is also a Suicide Prevention Week donation page at http://www.gofundme.com/juspw.

Organizers hope to expand on participation and impact this year by looking for involvement from departments and people on and off campus.

If you are interested in getting involved or being a sponsor, contact Active Minds President Jairid Pacileo, a JU Sociology major, at jpacile@jacksonville.edu for more information.
