Pop-rockers We The Kings to headline Fall 2013 concert at JU’s Larry Strom Amphitheatre

The pop-punk group We The Kings performs Thursday, Oct. 10, at Jacksonville University's Larry Strom Amphitheatre.

Pop-punkers We The Kings, the Billboard-charting headline act that won the MTV Music Award for Most Innovative Music Video Of The Year, performs Thursday, Oct. 10, at JU’s Larry Strom Amphitheatre, with alternative rockers The Well Reds opening.

The free annual Fall Concert, with The Well Reds starting at 7 p.m. and We The Kings at 8 p.m., is a closed event for JU students, faculty and staff only.

“This should be an exciting evening for our JU community on our gorgeous Dolphin Green along the St. Johns River,” said Kaiti Chambers, JU Assistant Director for Student Involvement.We The Kings’ self-titled debut 2007 album included the Platinum single “Check Yes Juliet.”

The Bradenton, Fla., band’s second album Smile Kid (2009) included Top 40 singles “We’ll Be A Dream” (featuring Demi Lovato) and “Heaven Can Wait.” Its 2011 release Sunshine State of Mind (S-Curve Records) featured MTV winner “Say You Like Me,” and the band is at work on a new album.

Three of the band’s founding members – singer/guitarist Travis Clark, guitarist Hunter Thomsen and drummer Danny Duncan – are childhood friends who formed We The Kings in high school. The band is known for using social media extensively. It has toured across the U.S. and world, and has been a main stage headliner on the Vans Warped Tour.

According to publicist Paradigm Agency, We The Kings’ debut album hit No. 1 on Billboard’s New Alternative Album sales chart and spawned the Billboard-charting track “Secret Valentine” along with “Check Yes Juliet.”They’ve sold millions of tracks, had more than 15 million YouTube video plays and had three of MTV.com’s most-requested videos. Their music has been licensed for the CW network, MTV, the Rock Band game and more, and they were nominated for a 2008 mtvU College Radio Woodie Award. Appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live and MTV’s TRL have further boosted the band’s visibility.

The Well Reds of Atlanta, meanwhile, are heavy on harmonies and hooks. They’ve performed with acts including Hot Chelle Rae, Parachute, Minus the Bear and Automatic Loveletter. They’ve also toured throughout the Southeast and Midwest while also doing industry showcases in New York and L.A. Their debut EP Violet has enjoyed high praise, and they are at work on a new album.

Made up of Jeremy Ezell, Torin Degnats and brothers Sean and Rex Crawford, the quartet has become known for infectious melodies and polished live performances.
