JU’s Winter Alumni Gathering (WAG) Feb. 15-17, Varsity shooting team highlighted on WJXT

JU’s upcoming Winter Alumni Gathering grabbed some prime attention on WJXT TV-4’s Morning Show Sunday, Feb. 3, along with the University’s varsity shooting team.

WAG, as it’s called, will be held Feb. 15-17 and feature skeet shooting with the JU Varsity Sporting Clays, Skeet and Trap Team; a chance to “play” with the Davis Aviation Center’s new $500,000 state-of-the-art aviation simulator; and a swing (or two, or more) on JU’s new Swisher Golf Practice Facility. In addition, other events occurring during WAG weekend include a rival basketball game against UNF Friday evening, as well as softball games and baseball games Saturday. There’s also the Moe’s Southwest Lacrosse Classic, in which JU will play Ohio State on Sunday.

JU shooting team Coach David Dobson, Team Captain Scott Hensley and JU Director of Alumni Relations Shirin Brenick discussed the team and its role in the upcoming alumni event.

Dobson discussed the shooting team’s rise to Varsity status, its two Divisional national championships, a visit in November by two-time Olympic gold medalist Vincent Hancock  and the team’s “fantastic growth” from 11 students to 50 now.

Brenick encouraged JU alumni to register for WAG by visiting http://www.ju.edu/alumni/Pages/WAG-Weekend.aspx.
