The Jacksonville University College of Fine Arts presents the JU Wind Ensemble in concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 in Terry Hall on the JU campus. The concert is free and the public is invited.
The Wind Ensemble will present a program titled “Musical Americana” that explores the use of popular music by composers in concert works, including “Fantasia on Black is the Color of my True Love’s Hair” and “Turkey in the Straw.” “Napoleon’s Last Charge” is a re-creation of the type of description march available for American parlor pianists 100 years ago. Other selections include music by Owens, Mackey, Camphouse, Buckley and Ticheli.
The concert will feature outstanding trombonist and JU senior Corey Wilcox in Arthur Pryor’s virtuosic “Blue Bells of Scotland.” The concert will end with a popular and exciting work by John Barnes Chance titled “Incantation and Dance.”
The JU Wind Ensemble includes woodwind, brass and percussion instrumentalists and is led by music professor Artie Clifton. The group studies and performs the best of traditional and contemporary wind literature.
