JU to host Jacksonville Symphony Chorus auditions Sept. 7

Auditions for the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7, at Jacksonville University’s Philips Fine Arts Building, beginning at 9 a.m. Call (904) 354-5479, ext. 221, weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to schedule an audition time.

Directed by Donald McCullough, the Jacksonville Symphony Chorus will perform with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra this season in Verdi’s “Requiem,” Handel’s “Messiah,” Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Holiday Pops” and more.

The Jacksonville Symphony Chorus typically rehearses on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 -10 p.m. with additional rehearsals closer to performance dates.

The audition will consist of vocalizing (scales and arpeggios), basic rhythmic sight-reading, simple melodic sight-reading, singing a group of notes first played on the piano and singing the first stanza of “America” (“My Country, ‘Tis of Thee”). Singers who would like to prepare another musical selection must be aware that auditions are limited to seven minutes per person.
