JU’s Varsity Shooting Team faced some serious talent – including Olympic Qualifier Alex Rennert of UF – but still wound up as the Southeast Regional Sporting Clays Champions at the recent Jacksonville Southeast Fall Invitational College SCTP Shoot. (See photo gallery below).
The Shoot was hosted by Jacksonville University, Jacksonville Skeet & Trap and the Scholastic Clay Target Program.
This was the biggest Jacksonville SE Invitational Collegiate Regional to date – 116 athletes and 10 teams from the University of Kentucky, Clemson, Emmanuel College, ABAC, UF, FSU, Stetson, UNF, Embry-Riddle and JU.
The four-target spread between JU (Runner-up) and Clemson (Champ) for High Overall Average (HOA) Collegiate Champ on Saturday, Oct. 19, meant the competition was neck and neck. Add in the fact that JU went last in the day and had to shoot the International Wobble Event in the rain, where it was hard to see the targets, and I could not be more pleased. It’s a game of inches. Not one JU shooter complained – very professional.
On Sunday, Oct. 20, JU dominated the other teams, earning the title of SE Regional Sporting Clays Champions by a good margin.
Congratulations to all team members.
We are grateful to the SCTP & MidwayUSA for funding this event each fall and spring, as well as to the NWTF, our army of volunteers and the Jacksonville Gun Club for being our home and our friend.
