JU Orchestra performs in historic, moving concert at the Times-Union’s Jacoby Hall

 

 

Jacksonville University’s full orchestra and the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus choirs teamed up March 9 at the Florida Times-Union Performing Arts Center’s Jacoby Symphony Hall for a concert, “I Never Saw Another Butterfly” — a musical memorial to the thousands of children who passed through Teresienstadt concentration camp iduring World War II n what is now the Czech Republic on their journey to the their deaths in the German Nazis’ Auschwitz extermination camp in Poland.

“This was a first for the Jacksonville University Orchestra — playing on the stage of Jacoby Symphony Hall!” said Marguerite Richardson, JU’s orchestra director and assistant professor of strings. “It was a very moving event and it was really significant to the JU students in the orchestra. It was also our first ever collaboration with the Jacksonville Children’s Chorus.”
