Check out the review of the Sept. 27 Brad Paisley concert in The Florida Times-Union by Jacksonville University’s own Prof. Thomas Harrison, chair of the Division of Music.
Among other tidbits, Harrison offers the following in his review of the event at Jacksonville Veteran’s Memorial Arena:
Country music has had a long and storied tradition since becoming an essential element of popular music in the 20th century. Lately, many country artists have been keen to embrace rock elements into their songwriting and production approaches, so much that some could argue that it wasn’t really country anymore.
Paisley’s guitar prowess is very well known, and he surely did not disappoint. Most fans went to enjoy Paisley’s hits, but scattered throughout the audience were guitarists shaking their heads in disbelief as Paisley pulled out another blues-influenced country riff that would have been impressive in any genre.
