Jacksonville University’s new film professor, Bandar Albuliwi, profiled in Folio Weekly

Jacksonville University film Prof. Bandar’s Albuliwi’s vision of molding young minds and his fascinating life as a filmmaker, playwright and actor are covered in a major profile of Albuliwi in the current Folio Weekly magazine.

Albuliwi is an award-winning filmmaker whose debut feature film, “Peace after Marriage,” won the Creative Promise Award at the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. His latest feature film, “East of Broadway,” was part of the 2011 Berlinale International Film Festival’s Talent Campus. He joined the JU Fine Arts faculty this month.

In the Folio piece, Albuliwi says he transitioned from acting to directing because he was typecast as a terrorist too often.

Of his JU students, he told Folio: “I want them to go out there, make their own movie, make their own mistakes, and learn from that. I want them to have more of a production-based environment than a classroom setting.”
