Where’d it go? Mystery solved…

Many have long wondered about the history of the industrial-looking pipe sculpture at the front of JU.

Now they may be wondering where it is.

The 60-foot-tall piece moved this week from its longtime location near the front of the Howard Administration building to a spot near the soon-to-be remodeled River House.

The piece, “Le Signal,” made by French sculptor André Bloc in 1961, stood at the old Roosevelt Mall on Jacksonville’s Westside for many years before eventually finding its way to Jacksonville University in 2000. It was first installed on the site of the current Davis College of Business, and was later moved to its location at the front of campus after DCOB was built.

Movers carefully lowered and trucked the artwork to its new home to make way for an additional 60 parking spots at the front of campus, including for visitors.

Trivia: Mike Bobbin, JU executive director of campus services, says people may not know there’s a miniature six-foot version of the Bloc sculpture standing outside the Campus Security warehouse.
