Ryan VP choice adds “excitement” to GOP ticket, JU’s Stephen Baker tells First Coast News

JU Political Science Professor Stephen Baker gave his take Sunday to First Coast News on the selection of Wisconsin U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan as  Mitt Romney’s running mate.

“Ryan adds a lot more excitement to the ticket,” Baker told the station.

The station noted that Dr. Baker said Floridians may be disappointed Congressman Marco Rubio of Florida was not picked.

He also said adding Ryan will bring Medicare to the front as an issue. Ryan proposed replacing Medicare with a voucher system.

“I think it’s an issue that needs to be addressed [in the campaign],” Dr. Baker told First Coast News. “It will go into effect down the road. Those currently covered by Medicare would remain under the system, and I’m sure they would point that out.”
