Andrés Laplaceliere, a native of Maracaibo, Venezuela, is now a rising senior here at Jacksonville University, following his sister, Adda Laplaceliere, who graduated as a vocal major in 2016. According to Laplaceliere, he is here to forge his own path. “I like working hard and getting good grades, and it pays off.” With a major in dance and a minor in business administration, he has shown that he can do exceptional work. In 2017, he won a National Society of Leadership and Success Academic Excellence Scholarship, one of only a dozen awarded nationally and each offered exclusively to students with a standing GPA of 3.7 or above. “I had to submit an essay, and list community service and extracurricular activities here at JU, and I count myself fortunate to be selected.”

One of the activities that Laplaceliere has participated in is JU’s Charter Day of Service. Working alongside other members of the International Student Association, Laplaceliere was able to give back to the community by providing food to the homeless. “We had a food company come, and we had homeless people come, and we were able to give them all the food they wanted. It felt great to be able to give back to those less fortunate.” For him, seizing the opportunity to attend JU and become part of a community that provides the chance to achieve academically and give to others has been a wonderful experience. “I feel at home here. I really like it. JU is something that will take you where you want to be; career-wise, life wise.”
