JU Trustee, champion John Harrison honored at Philanthropy Day event

Jacksonville University honored longtime supporter John G. Harrison on Monday, Nov. 5 at a First Coast National Philanthropy Day event at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Jacksonville.

A 1967 JU alumnus, Harrison has been a Trustee since 2004, is a loyal donor to the University and is an instrumental player in JU’s ability to field winning sports teams in quality facilities.

As chair of the Athletics Committee for seven years and member of the Buildings & Grounds and Strategic Planning committees, Harrison has helped raise more than $4 million for JU Athletics and other programs, and he was instrumental in bringing lacrosse and varsity sailing to JU.

A JU Distinguished Alumni honoree, Harrison is president of Harrison & Co. in Jacksonville, former chairman and CEO of Direct Market Concepts, and past chairman of the Gator Bowl Association board of directors.

National Philanthropy Day is set aside to recognize and pay tribute to the individuals, organizations, foundations, corporation for their impactful philanthropic and volunteer contributions in Jacksonville. The annual event is organized locally by the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ First Coast chapter.
