JU Theatre Prof. Deborah Jordan to speak at prestigious national ATHE theatre conference

Deborah Jordan, JU Assistant Professor of Theatre, has been invited to serve as a member of a panel at the prestigious Association of Theatre in Higher Education (ATHE) National Conference in Orlando Aug. 1-4.

Deborah Jordan, JU Assistant Professor of Theatre

The panel is titled “Tradition and Innovation:  Mediating Media into a Traditional Curriculum.  Does Our Current Pedagogy Work?”

Jordan and five other theater professors from around the U.S. will present and speak about their programs and discuss the traditional theater curriculum in a changing mass-media world.

“I think it’s a very important discussion to have,” Jordan said. “In this shifting world of mass media the question arises: ‘Are we serving our students to the best of our abilities with the current theater curriculum?’  I am very honored and excited to be serving on this national panel.  I look forward to hearing how other theater professors are handling the issue.”

The Association of Theatre in Higher Education is a very prestigious organization, consisting of professors of every rank and some graduate students. There are more than 1,600 members.

Its website at www.athe.org states:

“ATHE serves the interests of its diverse individual and organizational members, including college and university theatre departments and administrators, educators, graduate students, and theatre practitioners.”
