Jacksonville University political science professor Stephen Baker has been elected to chair the Northeast Florida Health Start Coalition, the Florida Times-Union reported Feb. 5.
The Healthy Start Coalition covers Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns counties and is part of a statewide network of community-based organizations that aims to reduce Florida’s infant mortality rate and improve the lives of pregnant women and their families. The 20-year-old group is governed by a volunteer board which allocates state funding and provides oversight to local agencies that serve pregnant women and families of newborns, the Times-Union reported.
