JU Dolphins win thriller after retiring jersey number of fallen teammate Corey Lovrich

Corey Lovrich

An emotion-packed afternoon Saturday in which JU retired the number of one of its fallen lacrosse teammates ended with a dramatic second-half comeback win for the Dolphins over Siena.

A special half-time presentation featured various teammates and coaches honoring Corey Lovrich’s family with the retiring of his No. 88 jersey, according to a JU Athletics article.

Corey Lovrich was a captain and member of the JU lacrosse program for two seasons.

Lovrich was a captain and member of the JU lacrosse program for two seasons before being diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer in the spring of 2011. After a valiant fight, he passed away last May in his home state of New York.

His No. 88 became the first jersey in the program’s history to be retired.

After halftime, a motivated Dolphin team came back to win in overtime 11-10. The game was the MAAC opener for both teams.
