JU dance alum Tara Wicker Foxworth on pointe with busy dance school in Oceanway

JU dance alum Tara Wicker Foxworth and her husband, Rick, are pouring their hearts – and muscles — into teaching y0ungsters about dance and the arts at their Oceanway School of Dance & Performing Arts.
The pair were written up in the July issue of North Jax Monthly, in a piece that highlighted their arts backgrounds and love of mentoring students.

Wicker, who graduated cum laude in 2003 from JU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in dance and Bachelor of Arts in dance education,  Mrs. Foxworth, a life-long dancer, began her dance training at age five. She attended Douglas Anderson School of the Arts before going to JU and also taking master’s classes classes in New York.
Tara told North Jax Monthly that the family-oriented school focuses on personalized attention and small classes, with instruction in classical ballet, pointe, lyrical, choreography, contemporary, creative movement, jazz, tap, hip-hop,  modern, acrobatics and pre-combination. Rick Foxworth did much of the remodeling work to expand the school’s size, and also teaches guitar.
“We are building an incredible dance company, with different teams from ages eight and up,” she said in the article. “This year, we won high awards at the dance competitions at the University of North Florida.”
