JU Board of Trustees elects Driver, McAfee, Peek & Hawthorne P.L. President G. Ray Driver Jr.

The Jacksonville University Board of Trustees has unanimously elected Driver, McAfee, Peek & Hawthorne P.L.  President G. Ray Driver Jr. to the board, effective April 29, 2016.

Driver is an award-winning attorney with more than two decades’ experience practicing in mergers and acquisitions, venture capital finance, securities law and general corporate law, as well as representing public and private businesses in a wide range of corporate transactions. He is also known for his broad civic involvement, support and leadership.

“Ray is one of the preeminent legal minds – especially in creating transactions that add value – and we are honored to have him join us,” said JU President Tim Cost. “He has been active for many years in the most relevant community efforts, and his knowledge and sense of the Northeast Florida community will be critical in helping us shape our thinking.”

Driver is a member of The Florida Bar, American Bar Association and Jacksonville Bar Association (Past President). He earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting from the University of Montevallo, and a master’s degree in accounting and law degree from the University of Florida.

Among his many awards, Driver was named 2016 Jacksonville Ultimate Attorney by the Jacksonville Business Journal; selected for 2015-16 Best Lawyers in America in Corporate Law, Mergers and Acquisitions Law and Venture Capital Law; named the Best Lawyers’ 2015 Jacksonville Corporate Law “Lawyer of the Year”; awarded Jacksonville Lawyer of the Year by The Daily Record in 2014; and inducted into the Florida Legal Elite Hall of Fame in 2013.

Civic involvement is a longtime passion for Driver. He is a Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce Trustee, member of The Players Council board; vice chair of the Northeast Florida Community Hospice Foundation board; and a supporter and volunteer for the Community Rehabilitation Center and Tree Hill Nature Center, among other civic and nonprofit agencies. He is a member of the Rotary Club of Deerwood (President), Hancock Bank’s Advisory Board and Holy Family Catholic Church’s Finance Council.

Upon completion of his first three-year term on the JU board, Driver will be eligible for reelection for two additional consecutive terms.

The Jacksonville University Board of Trustees is made up of 30 members, including 10 alumni, representing national leaders in a wide range of fields such as education, technology, health care, financial services, medicine and the law.
