Kay Johnson is still a fixture at the child development center she founded at Jacksonville University nearly 40 years ago — but only on Thursdays, Charlie Patton writes in his profile of Johnson in his Florida Times-Union “One of Us” column published Feb. 26.

Johnson retired from her post as a JU professor and as director of Wilma’s Little People School in 2004, while retaining the school’s “founding director” title.

“I like the fact that I can still be around the kids but I don’t have to have them 24-7,” she said in the column.
