Former JU President Kerry Romesburg was honored Thursday, Feb. 28, by Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown with a proclamation of “Dr. Kerry Romesburg Day.” The honor recognizes his long career in higher education, his value to the local education community and his skillful work at strengthening Jacksonville University’s financial status and positioning it for long-term growth.

The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS: A valued and highly-respected member of our local education community, Dr. Kerry Romesburg began his tenure as president of Jacksonville University (JU) in July 2004; and
WHEREAS: Dr. Romesburg is an expert in the field of education administration and a passionate believer in the transformative power of education, having dedicated his life’s work to leading the success of institutions of higher learning; and
WHEREAS: With a wealth of experience and a reputation for strong leadership, he has been an agent of positive change in every role he has served during his impressive career; and
WHEREAS: During his 14-year presidency at Utah Valley State College, Dr. Romesburg oversaw the school’s conversion from a two-year community college to a four-year state college, with enrollment growing from 6,000 students to nearly 25,000; and during that time he also saw the college’s endowment increase from $280,000 to more than $41 million; and
WHEREAS: Since taking on the role of JU’s president, Dr. Romesburg has reinvigorated the university, reigning in financial issues, highlighting the campus’ natural beauty and working every day to ensure the institution’s future greatness; and
WHEREAS: The City of Jacksonville joins the First Coast community in showing its deep appreciation for Dr. Romesburg’s numerous, impactful contributions to Jacksonville University and education in our city.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ALVIN BROWN, by virtue of the authority vested in me as mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, do hereby proclaim February 28, 2013 as
DR. KERRY ROMESBURG DAY
in Jacksonville and encourage all citizens to recognize Dr. Kerry Romesburg’s many contributions to our city’s educational system and to our community as a whole.
