Documentary featuring former JU hoops star to be shown in England, Germany, Canada

After a  one-week run in Jacksonville and a one-month run at the IFC Center in New York, “The Iran Job” — a documentary about former Jacksonville University basketball standout Kevin Sheppard’s on-court and off-the-court experiences as a professional player in Iran — will be shown later this month in Denver, London, Toronto, and Florence, Italy.

“The Iran Job” will continue specialty and festival screenings throughout December before it returns to U.S. theaters in January, followed by the theatrical release in Germany, said director Till Schauder.

Sheppard was an all-Atlantic Sun Conference guard for Jacksonville University who played professionally in South America, Europe, China and Israel before joining the Iranian Super League in 2008. In Iran, he established a bond with three outspoken female fans of his team who introduced him to Iran’s rich culture and to the country’s pressing human rights issues, which in Sheppard’s view mirror some of the same issues still plaguing the U.S. Sheppard, who obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics from JU in 2003, now coaches his former Virgin Islands high school team and runs a youth basketball league.
