Art professors to show works at Riverside’s Clay & Canvas Friday, Aug. 28

Works by Lily Kuonen and Tiffany W. Leach, both Assistant Professors of Art at JU, will be on display from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, during an Open Studio Night Exhibition at the Clay & Canvas Studio they operate in Riverside. clayandcanvas

The exhibition at the studio at 2642-6 Rosselle St. will feature their newest works, with tunes provided by DJ Sir Robin. Also on view will be Prometheus Studios Glass Works by Kirin Hale, and special performance by Screen Door Dance Room at 8 p.m. (with an open dance class and demos from 7-8 p.m.). There will be treats and drinks provided by local craft brewery Intuition Ale Works.

Prof. Kuonen, Foundations Coordinator in the College of Fine Arts at Jacksonville University, makes PLAYNTINGS, which are the synthesis of painting with additional forms and actions. Combining wood, canvas, paint, and all the scraps and tools of the studio, she explores beyond categorical structures. She received her MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design.

leach artwork 2015Prof. Leach is a ceramic artist who explores vessels using figurative forms, animal traits, and horizon lines reminiscent of a southern landscape for expression. She received her MFA from University of Georgia

Screen Door Dance Room recently opened its doors for public and private lessons in ballet, modern, and contemporary dance. The studio is operated by a collective of local dance instructors, and is led by Chelsea Hilding. Prometheus Studios Glass Works, operated by Kirin Hale, specializes in custom designed kiln-formed decorative and functional glass works.
